Zettelkasten Note-Taking In VSCode

In the modern world, keeping things in short term memory through things such as stackoverflow is really harming yourself and your career. Even top developers and designers avoid such things. Let me show you how to set up a tool they do use called Zettelkasten note-taking in VSCode.

Zettelkasten note-taking method is an evolution of card note-taking originally employed by such people as Carl Linnaeus. Niklas Luhmann redefined the method and made it famous during his lifetime in publishing over 70 books and over 400 articles. Index cards and systematic note-taking not only in academics, as even Steven Tyler of Aerosmith used a song notebook to write songs in and song ideas.

Roam Research, which created the paid note-taking tool called roam, has created a free Zettelkasten note-taking tool as a plugin for VSCode called FOAM. Foam is very simple to install as you install the FOAM plugin in VSCode from Visual Studio Marketplace:
Then you soft-fork(clone) the foam workspace and install the suggested plugins when you open that workspace in VSCode:
The last step is to set up an atomic note template using the FOAM variables, like this:
